Kindergarten Rodeo in Coahoma

Well I am making myself take the time to update this. It has been a couple of weeks and so much has happened. My dog, Charlee, just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I looked at her last night and told Ben that she is no longer a little puppy but a teenager. It is scary! LOL!
I wanted to blog about a different kind of rodeo we went to a couple of weeks back - The Kindergarten Rodeo in Coahoma, TX. This is the neatest little rodeo I have ever been to. My husband and sister-in-law, Brandi, have announced and done music for it for several years. In fact when I first met Ben he told me about it and said it is his favorite event to announce.
For the last 31 years the teachers in Coahoma have taken their kindergartners and put on this rodeo. They have bronc riding, barrel racing, pole bending, team roping, square dancing, a band, flag racing and of course my favorite - bull riding and it is all done on STICK Horses! Yes I said stick horses. It is the coolest thing ever! They have a little chute complete with pick-up men, clowns and a barrel man. The clown, Clem McSpadden comes and also the fiddle player Jody Nix and Miss Rodeo Texas.

Not only does this rodeo take alot of organization (hats off to the teachers) but it also takes alot of creativity. These little kids are all decked out in their hats and boots and they participate like little soldiers. It is so fun to watch. You would think it would be one big circus but it isn't. Below are a bunch of pics so you can get the idea! If I was a kindergarten teacher I would definitely want to try something like this - it is a great spectator function and much better than any play I have been too - granted I am a huge rodeo fan!

Grand Entry

Waiting to Participate

Barrel Racing

Team Roping

My Favorite - The clowns!

The Barrelman

The bull riding - if you look close you can see the bulls head on the stick rather than a stick horse

As you can tell it was a blast! I was sceptical about going to it but I thoroughly enjoyed myself and can't wait to see next years production!

Neat pictures! Looks like lots of fun. Remember the old Hunsaker Kids Rodeo with the bucking shetlands, calves, and goats. You were lucky to be in one of the last ones. Have a great day!

Oh My...That is such a cute BIG ta-do! Fun to be part of! Saige is looking at your blog with me and loves your puppy! She wishes it was hers. Good luck with your garden! I am jealous! Our soil and rodent population do not make a good formula for a successful garden. Oh well! Take Care, Brit
